Privacy Policy

Last updated: January 02, 2026

Patrick Jakobsen ("we", "our", or "us") operates the MyMovieMate mobile application (the "Service").

This page informs you of our policies regarding the collection, use, and disclosure of personal data when you use our Service and the choices you have associated with that data.

1. Information Collection and Use

MyMovieMate is designed to respect your privacy. In general, we do not collect, store, or share your personal information on our servers. The App functions primarily as a client-side interface for browsing movie and TV show data.

Types of Data Collected

Personal Data

While using our Service, we do not inherently require you to provide us with personally identifiable information.

Usage Data & iCloud

If you use features such as "Watchlist" or "Sync", your data (such as lists of movies you have watched or want to watch) is stored:

  1. Locally on your device.
  2. In your private iCloud container (if iCloud is enabled on your device), managed by Apple. We do not have access to your private iCloud data; it is synchronized directly between your devices and Apple's servers.

Information from Third-Party APIs

The Service fetches data (movie titles, images, descriptions) from The Movie Database (TMDB). When the App makes requests to TMDB to fetch information, your IP address may be visible to TMDB. Please refer to TMDB's Privacy Policy for more information.

2. Use of Data

We use the data strictly to provide and improve the Service:

  • To allow you to track movies and TV shows.
  • To synchronize your watchlist across your devices via iCloud.
  • To display relevant movie information.

3. Data Retention

Since we do not maintain a central server with user accounts, we do not retain your personal data. Your watchlist and preferences are retained on your device and your personal iCloud account until you delete them or uninstall the App.

4. Service Providers

We may employ third-party companies and individuals to facilitate our Service ("Service Providers"), to provide the Service on our behalf, or to assist us in analyzing how our Service is used.

  • The Movie Database (TMDB): Used for movie and TV show metadata.
  • Apple (iCloud): Used for data synchronization.

These third parties have access to your data only to perform these tasks on our behalf or as part of the standard operating procedures of the internet (e.g., DNS, IP routing) and are obligated not to disclose or use it for any other purpose.

5. Security of Data

The security of your data is important to us. Since your personal data (watchlist) is stored on your device or Apple's iCloud service, it is protected by the security measures provided by Apple's iOS/macOS ecosystem. Remember that no method of transmission over the Internet, or method of electronic storage is 100% secure.

6. Children's Privacy

Our Service does not address anyone under the age of 13 ("Children"). We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from anyone under the age of 13. If you are a parent or guardian and you are aware that your child has provided us with Personal Data, please contact us.

7. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "effective date" at the top of this Privacy Policy.
